Removing Fortigate from Fortimanager Central Management (error)

Our Fortimanager license expired recently and we decided not to renew (because I hate it). We made the move to using Fortigate Cloud and ran into a couple of issues removing a few devices that were still set to use FMG for central management.

When the license expires on FMG, you can’t do anything except login and see a message that tells you to renew your license, so you can’t delete the device from there.

When you try to change or remove it on the Fortigate, you get the following error:

Even if you do it in the CLI, you still get the same error.

Well…. how the hell do we change this??

Turns out you can set the ip to any ip on the FMG page, so i’m going to set mine to 1.1.1.1:

Click OK at the bottom of the screen and wait a bit. It will tell you it can’t connect, but will save changes:

Click “Return” – Go back into the Fabric Connector and set to “Disabled”:

Click OK to save changes – You will be notified that info will be removed from FMG. You will also be signed out.

Sign back in and navigate to the Security Fabric Connector. The FMG connection has been removed!
