TSHOOT – POE error on Fortiswitch

I ran into an issue at one of my sites where our monitoring system notified me of all my access points going offline. I logged into the Fortigate managing the Fortiswitch they were connected to and saw that the switch was online and devices were connected to it and working.

Odd.

I checked the ports that the AP’s were connected to and they were showing offline – no devices. I also didn’t see any POE phones connected.

Also Odd

Things I Tried:

  • rebooted the switch. No POE
  • unplugged the power cable, waited a few minutes and plugged back in. No POE
  • moved the power cable to a different outlet / ups. No POE.

To Troubleshoot the issue further, I logged directly into the Fortiswitch from the Fortigate GUI.

Once logged in, I ran the command “get switch poe inline” and got this result:

Well, that doesn’t look good…

I tried disabling POE on all the ports to see if maybe there was an issue with a single device causing problems, however the issue persisted.

I also tried running the command “diagnose switch poe status port44” to see if I could get additional information on a port I knew an AP was connected to, however it shows the same info as the previous command:

I think ran the command “get hardware status

Per the Fortinet article I referenced below, I checked the poe pre-standard setting and it was already disabled (which they recommended)

config switch global
show full-configuration | grep poe

At this point, I ended up reaching out to Fortinet support. We ended up RMAing the switch as it was deemed a hardware issue. Hope this helps!
